I found this today. Something I wrote a friend this past March about this transition. It's interesting to reflect on where I've come from and where I am now...
I'm really excited about the move, starting over, studying new things, getting closer to being able to do what I want to do. But, I really am having a hard time with the idea of leaving here, too. I really love this city and all that I have here. But I know that God will be faithful and I'll have a lot in Atlanta, too. More about Emory, huh? I'll be studying there for probably 4.5 years- 2 years to become a registered nurse, 1.5 years to become a nurse practitioner, and 1 year to get my master's in public health. Emory is a very respected medical and academic community, with lots of connections with international organizations, so I think it will bring great opportunities. There also is a large emphasis on working with underserved populations, which I value. Emory's in an up-and-coming area of Atlanta. Pretty electic, hip, progressive culture. But yes, the south is pretty saturated with Christianity, for better or worse. It's just a different culture. Many people identify with Christianity, but often just due to tradition more so than true faith/relationship with God.
