Gotta love this city- at least I have both times I've been there. I was there for a long weekend Friday through this Monday morning. I got in on Friday at lunchtime. I met my friend Aaron for burgers and beer at Henry's Tavern. We kicked it for a few hours catching up on his adventures around the world, my sort-of adventures in Atlanta, and then looking for a good bachelorette gift for Jenni. We split and he went to Michael's bachelor party. I went to stash my stuff at my friend Brooke's and then went to Jenni's bachelorette party, which really turned out to be a lingerie shower of sorts. The guys drove go-carts and pub crawled. I think the guys did it up right, Portland style. Aaron didn't have a place lined up to stay, so he crashed at Brooke's place, too.
Saturday was homemade french toast breakfast and lattes, compliments of Brooke. We lazed around the apartment for a while, went to Powell's Books, and then Aaron and I went to the wedding. Congrats to Jenni and Michael. It was a great excuse to catch up with several of my SF friends. Lee and I couldn't stop commentating on the ceremony and reception- we had some good laughs while people watching. Everybody was worn out, I guess, because there was no after party. And Brooke doesn't live in the city, so Aaron and I had to hitch a ride back to Brooke's with our friend Dyball who was headed south to Portland, so you take what you can get when you get it.
Sunday morning was homemade muffins, eggs, and lattes, again compliments of Brooke. I might add that I ate half a dozen muffins throughout the day- good, wholesome stuff. We went to Imago Dei (yes, the church in Blue Like Jazz), then met Brooke's family, who I hadn't seen since they moved away from GA in 1999, for brunch at Helser's on Alberta. Yum is all I have to say- it was great food and fun company! Then we lazed around Brooke's place for a little while, went outlet shopping, and then grocery shopping (you know- Sunday errands). Brooke's roommate Alicia came home from a weekend away and she, Brooke, Aaron, and I ate at Deschutes Brewery for supper for my last PDX 2009 hoorah. Yeah, I took the red-eye home. So needless to say there was a bit of a lack of sleep, but it was worth it. And the amount of coffee and beer I drank this weekend was more than I drank the entire rest of the month of March, so I guess that might have played a little part in keeping me going...
