Durham
1995-2009
Durham, a Pontiac Firebird, was born in Florida in 1995. Not much is known about his early years, but he was in 2 foster homes before he was adopted in 2001. His adoptive single mother, Kortney was a highschool student and he was her first. They spent a lot of time together and had a great relationship. They lived in Fayetteville until 2002 when they moved to Birmingham. After 4 years there, it was time for Kortney to move on and Durham was ready to be on his own. After 2 years apart, they were reunited and have spent the last year together in Atlanta again. Together they visited 6 states, survived a wreck, and many more adventures. On Sunday, they were driving happily down I-285. Kortney was thinking how great it was that Durham had stayed around so long. And then Durham began to choke up and rev his RPMs. Kortney stopped at a gas station and filled him up with transmission fluid, but it didn't make a difference. He was taken to the mechanic and after a filter change, the prognosis still was poor- he had suffered a transmission malfunction and would require expensive surgery. Kortney made the difficult decision to let him go. Durham is survived by Kortney, his adoptive grandparents, and his adoptive aunts and uncles. He was a great car- fun, reliable, and economical.
