half

Today I ran another half marathon. It was a pretty day in DC, the blossoms on the trees having already started to bloom. I was feeling rather indifferent about the race- just not wanting to push myself mentally and I hadn't seriously trained for it. I guess it would be accurate to say that I was "half" in.

On the course, I didn't feel great; only so-so. This is a departure from running my last race, the Chicago marathon, because I felt great during that race. I ran most of the race with a friend, which was wonderful. It's always nice to have someone to take on a challenge with. Plus, I'm not one to enjoy running long distances alone that often.

What I found to be beautiful as I was running along is the idea of people cheering me on who've never met me, don't know a thing about me, and probably they're there to cheer on a friend or family, yet they cheer for me, too. As many times as we are a foe to strangers in various ways, today there were many who were friends to strangers. That spurred me on.
