nashville

Three days of orientation and one day of class are now under my belt. It's not been what I expected so far, but it's been good. I'm glad to have finally started, though I think it won't be until this week or next week that I'll actually really start to settle in to a new routine. One thing I'm realizing, though, is that nursing school will never mean a consistent schedule. In 6 weeks I'll start my clinical rotations in the hospital and my schedule will change from what it is right now.

There are 118 in my class. We are from many different countries. We span in age from 20 to at least mid-60's. Some of us don't have a degree yet and some of us have multiple. So, needless to say, it is hard for us to all be on the same page. Orientation was a bit overwhelming and draining because so many people had questions and were freaking out. I think it will settle down a little as we go along. I've met some cool people already, and one guy who will be going all the way through the BSN-MSN-MPH with me.

This weekend Brock was playing Mercutio in a community theater company's version of Romeo and Juliet, so I drove to see him in it and hang out for the weekend. I love Nashville. Well, maybe it's the nostalgia I feel when I'm there and the memories that I have of all the weekend escapes to visit Brock and friends during college. Really- I've never had an uneventful, boring time in Nashville. And it's a great little city, but doesn't hold a candle to SF. Still, I always have a great time. So I was really glad to go.

Brock graduated from Belmont this spring, but he still lives practically on campus and his roommates are still in school there. The play, while not associated with Belmont, was performed in Belmont's new black box theater and most of the cast had some association with Belmont. Friday night Brock's roommates had a pumping house party with mostly Belmont undergrads in attendence. So let's just say that I felt transported back to the days when I left the Samford bubble for the weekend to hang out with Brock and his crazy, fun Belmont friends. I felt like I was still in undergrad.

But wait, I actually currently am. Strange. Yes, technically I'm classified as a junior in nursing school. So I guess the feeling was appropriate. Here's to kicking off my second undergraduate career the good old way- a little roadtrip to Nashvegas- and to a great weekend with my brother, who, by the way, played a show-stopping Mercutio.
