orientation

I've gone through a few staff orientations for different hospitals in my short career. The first orientation I went through was not even a full day if I remember correctly. The second was a full day. This one that I'm doing for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is 3 days. Crazy, I know. But they're serious about letting us know what a great place Children's is to work and equipping their staff. The orientation group I'm with is around 100 people, representing the 3 different hospitals and the office park.

As overwhelming as the group is, I walked in on Monday morning and saw my friend Lindsay, who I ran into the first week I moved here. She just finished nursing school and I knew she was starting at Egleston, but I didn't know when and the thought hadn't even crossed my mind that we might be in the same orientation group. So needless to say, I had a friend to sit with. Then, on top of that, I realized when I was introducing myself to the other people at my table that another girl, Vicky, just moved with her husband from San Francisco, and she worked as a nurse in the NICU at UCSF. We know a lot of the same staff there, even though we never formally met. We've been sharing UCSF stories and talking about San Francisco. What a small world.

No one likes to sit and listen to presentations all day for 3 days in a row, and frankly half of the information doesn't apply to me since I'm not a full-time or part-time employee. But if nothing else, it's made me even more excited about my job because the presenters, for the most part, are passionate about their jobs and working for Children's. And God hasn't ceased to give me small reminders that He is watching out for me and working all together for my good.
